Research and Development Engineer; Multifunctional Furniture

Inova designs and manufactures multifunctional space-saving furniture for hospitality, residential, cruise ship, military and other markets. Inova has been recognized for the past 2 years as a top 100 wood and panel products manufacturer by Wood 100, sponsored by the Woodworking Network. The Director of Operations at Inova’s Altamont, NY facility was also named one of the Wood Industries 40 Under 40 award winners in 2016. Inova’s innovative products have been featured on multiple HGTV shows, the Discovery Channel, the Oprah Winfrey Show, and in resorts like Disney’s Art of Animation and Pop Century.

Because all of Inova’s products transform from one purpose to another, our work is a combination of furniture aesthetics, and mechanics. Duties:

  • Collaborating directly with the lead designer/engineer (company founder) on the development of all new products, from concept though prototyping.
  • Developing and continuously updating BOM’s, subassembly procedures, packaging planning, and all other aspects throughout the duration of the prototyping process.
  • Being responsible for carrying new product design into complete readiness for production.
  • Providing all needed information about new designs to the Director of Operations, as well as the Manufacturing Engineers to insure the smooth flow of all new products from final prototyping into production.
  • Developing assembly procedures and assembly manuals.
  • Be the main point of contact and liaison between the lead designer and the factory on new product development.

Qualifications:

  • A passion for understanding and developing mechanical processes and solutions as well as a genuine curiosity, fascination, and enjoyment about how things work.
  • An engineering background including at least an Associate’s degree in a related engineering field. It is important to keep in mind that our processes are eclectic so an engineering degree is considered a starting point, to be strongly enhanced by your creativity and hands-on experience.
  • Proficiency with Solidworks is required.
  • Strong organizational skills as well as the ability to manage time in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • Experience in millwork, fabrication, furniture, and/or construction, including experience in prototype building and hands-on woodwork is a big plus.
  • Experience with a variety of materials, such as wood, metal, plastics, adhesives, fasteners, etc.
  • Familiarity with state of the art woodworking or panel-processing environments, including optimizations, panel saws, edgebanders, CNC machines, and tooling is required.
  • Ability to learn new processes and materials quickly and thoroughly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to prioritize multiple projects and set priorities in collaboration with the whole team.

Salary will be commensurate with skills and experience.
